Around Ko Lanta

From Ko Lanta we took some day-trips by boat to see some of the other islands close by and do some snorkeling. The area is well known from the movies - "The Beach" was filmed in this area as well as the James Bond film "the Man with a Golden Gun." Limestone outcrops rise from the stunning blue seas.

Our first trip was action packed with a few snorkeling drop-offs before we had lunch on the island of Ko Ngai on an idyllic beach. We also stopped at the "Emerald Cave" on Ko Muk. The beach is entirely surrounded by sheer limestone cliffs, is only accessible by swimming through a tunnel in the limestone rock, and was formerly used by pirates to store their bounty.

Our second trip was to Ko Phi Phi and the surrounding beaches and islands. We visited Maya Beach, which was used for the movie "the Beach," and Monkey Beach as well as Ko Phi Phi don, the main island of Ko Phi Phi. As you can see the area is simply stunning!

From here we head to Siem Reap in Cambodia via Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. A friend of Jo's brother is living in Siem Reap and apparently the flooding has already subsided so we'll be able to visit the temples of Angkor Wat without any problems.
