Khardung La, Ladakh

After our bone crunching ride to Pangong Tso we decided to subject our bodies to a little more. We embarked on a two day trip to Nubra Valley which would mean having to go over the world's highest motorable pass - Khardung La - 5602 m / 18379 ft.

The pass is only a two hour drive from Leh so we quickly reached the dizzying heights of Khardung La. The road was narrow and windy and a little bit bumpy, just as we expected!

On our way up we passed many trucks and cars who obviously didn't make it - the wreckage clearly visible below the road.

Along the way we passed innumerable convoys of army trucks bringing supplies (we assumed) to the many army bases high up in the mountains towards the border. Regardless which way the convoy was going it was a hair raising experience passing 20 - 30 trucks on the steep, windy and narrow roads.

Once we made it to the stop we stopped for a quick chai and some photos. We had learned from the previous trip and made sure to wear all our warm clothes so we could last the few minutes taking photos of the incredible views.

The views on the way back of the other side of the pass were pretty spectacular as well.

We had so many photos from the valley, we are going to have to put them in a separate post!
