Ta Phrom, Cambodia

The other temples we had seen were reclaimed from the jungle upon discovery. Ta Phrom was a different case entirely. It was decided to leave this one pretty much in the condition it had been found in, albeit creating a few paths for tourists to walk through.

The temple was originally built in the late 12th, early 13th century and is a similar style to Bayon. The most impressive feature though is the trees growing randomly all over the place. They sprout up from the most unlikely spots and where the roots have weaved through the walls they are the only thing holding holding it up (but often knocking it down). Walking around this place was simply delightful.

We even discovered some pretty tame butterflies determined to rest on us in the heat of the day.
