Angkor Wat, Cambodia

Angkor Wat is the largest and best preserved temple within the Angkor complex. It was built back in the 12th century as a temple and capital city for the king. It is now a UNESCO world heritage site and the outline of Angkor Wat is on the Cambodian flag and a national pilgrimage for all Cambodians to visit.

The temple is set inside a large moat which you cross on a wide bridge with serpent carvings as handrails. Then comes a high outer wall before you enter into the temple grounds. The temple itself has some magnificent stone carvings and bas-reliefs carved into the walls. Inside the temple, we steadily climbed to the main central point with views over the surrounding jungle.
