Bryce Canyon National Park

The primary attraction at Bryce Canyon National Park is called “the Amphitheater,” a series of canyons that have been heavily eroded to form a huge concentration of spectacular rock spires "called hoodoos."

Here's the view from the rim:

Erosion is continuing to this day, as evidenced by this tree, referred to lovingly by the park rangers as "Twinkle Toes":

After taking in the vista around the rim, we headed down into the Amphitheater through a tight high-walled gorge called “Wall Street”:

We hiked around the bottom of the Amphitheater and saw some other interesting formations, including:

Thor's Hammer:

Queen Elizabeth:

And others:

After the hike, which took about two hours, we drove out to the southern end of the park to take in a few more vistas (and old trees):

We capped off a lovely day with a “full moon hike” lead by a park ranger:

Next stop, Zion National Park.
